What is a valve
Security

The safety relief valve is a safety device used to evacuate the required fluid flow from a pressure vessel, installation or equipment in such a way that it does not constantly exceed the maximum allowable pressure.

Features and functions
of a safety relief valve

The function of a safety relief valve is primarily to protect people and installations. Safety relief valves must be installed in installations and equipment where a maximum pressure limit must be guaranteed. The pressure limit can be exceeded for various reasons, including overpressure, control failures, pressure peaks, temperature variations, etc.

What types of Valves
Security are there?

Direct acting spring loaded valves

This is the most widespread system.
With a spring mechanism we achieve that the overpressures of the system act directly on the closing system of the valve, releasing the pressure according to the characteristics of the actuating spring.
It is a simple, reliable and generally inexpensive system.

Pilot-operated valves

Indirect acting system that makes the valve react to overpressure by means of a secondary pressure sensing bypass.

The reaction is slower and more progressive and is therefore suitable for systems with high water hammer.

At Zaes, as a manufacturer of safety valves for more than 60 years, we guarantee a quality product for your installations.

The correct handling and installation of a safety relief valve are key to avoid malfunctioning of the device.

Avoid components that cause pressure losses (shut-off valves, pipe extensions, etc.) between the system/equipment and the safety relief valve.
Clean the inlet and outlet connections to avoid impurities that could damage the sealing system.
The diameter of the connection must be at least the same as the valve inlet.
Always install in a vertical position.

How do you calculate a safety valve?

For the correct sizing of a safety relief valve, it is essential to know the following data

Tare pressure
Safety relief valve relief capacity or flow rate
Characteristics of the fluid to be relieved
International standard calculation to be performed to use the formulas required in such formula (API, ASME, BS, EN/ISO, NB, GOST, etc.).

Differences between Relief Valves and
Safety Valve

Although they have the same purpose, to prevent overpressure in systems at risk of overpressure, the difference between a safety relief valve and a safety relief valve is that a safety relief valve protects the equipment or system by expelling the fluid, after overpressure, to the outside of the system, whereas a safety relief valve prioritises maintaining the flow of the installation by relieving inside and will only open to expel pressure and fluid outside the installation in case the pressure starts to increase progressively.
