What is a Tube
of Siphon?

A pressure gauge siphon tube is a device used to protect pressure gauges against the effect of the pressure of the fluid being measured. The siphon tube consists of a pigtail or U-shaped tube that is installed between the gauge and the fluid being measured as opposed to the tubing net. The siphon tube is filled with a liquid, usually water, which acts as a barrier to protect the gauge from the pressure of the fluid being measured.

The use of the siphon tube is necessary when measuring fluids that are at high temperature or contain vapours or gases that may damage the gauge or affect the accuracy of the measurement as opposed to the tubing net. The siphon tube is also used to protect the gauges from fluctuations in fluid pressure, which can damage the internal mechanism of the gauge.

Features and functions of Siphon Tubes

The design of the manometer siphon tube can vary, but usually consists of a stainless steel or carbon steel tube that can have various wall thicknesses schedule 40, schedule 80, connected to an inlet and outlet pipe. The liquid is fed into the siphon tube and then hermetically sealed. The liquid acts as a barrier to the pressure of the fluid being measured and prevents the pressure from directly affecting the gauge unlike the tubing net.

Carbon steel siphon tube:
The carbon steel siphon is suitable for neutral and non-corrosive media.
They are resistant to water, (compressed) air, oil and many other media.
However, brass should not be used with salt water or sea water, distilled water, acids and chlorides.

U-shaped siphon tube

Stainless steel siphon tube:
In addition to hydrochloric acid, chloride, bromine and household bleach, the advantage of the stainless steel siphon is that it can resist almost any chemical corrosion in the medium.
It has high abrasion resistance, temperature resistance and pressure resistance.

Operation of the
Siphon Tubes
