What is a pressure
gauge snubber?

The pressure gauge snubber  is a safety element used to prevent water hammer on the pressure gauge, either due to overpressure or sudden pressure fluctuations.

The meter snubber can be adjusted and fine-tuned to adjust the water hammer. The typical adjustable snubber  is a piston snubber  with an added needle valve. The needle valve further restricts the flow before entering the gate. The piston snubber can also be a check ball valve, its working principle is passive until it is activated by a sudden change in pressure.

Some adjustable snubbers  also come with a sealing cover, allowing the meter to be disassembled for repair or maintenance.

The needle valve further restricts the flow before entering the gate. The piston snubber can also be a non-return ball valve, its working principle is the same as the passive type, it is not activated until the pressure changes abruptly.

What types of pressure gauge snubber exist?

Brass snubber

Brass smubbers  are suitable for neutral and non-corrosive media. They are resistant to water, (compressed) air, oil and many other media. However, brass should not be used with salt water or sea water, distilled water, acids and chlorides.

Stainless steel snubber

In addition to hydrochloric acid, chloride, bromine, and household bleach, the advantage of stainless steel tampons is that they are chemically resistant to almost any medium. It has high abrasion resistance, temperature resistance and pressure resistance.

Gauges snubbers operation

The pressure gauge snubber matches the speed at which the fluid or gas reaches the measurement point.

Using a buffer in a gauge application will not change the process pressure, it will reduce pipe pulsation, thus improving the accuracy of gauge readings and extending the life of specific gauges.
